Copyright Ownership and Licensing Options
Unless authors select an open-access publishing option, copyright for articles published in the Knowledge and Leadership Alliance will be retained by the journal. As part of our commitment to promoting access to academic research, we offer a range of publishing models: Green, Gold, and Hybrid Open Access. Below are the terms and conditions governing content published under each model.
Green Open Access
In the Green Open Access model, authors retain the copyright for their manuscripts while granting the Knowledge and Leadership Alliance a non-exclusive license to publish and make the article publicly available. Authors are encouraged to self-archive preprints or postprints of their articles in institutional repositories, subject-specific repositories, or on personal websites.
Key terms for Green Open Access include:
- Authors retain copyright and grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish.
- Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the article for non-commercial purposes.
- Proper attribution must be given to the original author(s) and the source of publication.
Gold Open Access
Under the Gold Open Access model, articles are freely accessible to readers upon publication. Authors retain the copyright for their work, and articles are typically published under a Creative Commons license, which maximizes the potential for reuse and redistribution.
Key terms for Gold Open Access include:
- Authors retain copyright and grant the journal a license to publish under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license or another suitable Creative Commons license.
- Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the article for any lawful purpose, as long as proper attribution is given.
- Commercial use and derivative works are allowed, in accordance with the terms of the selected Creative Commons license.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts adhere to the Knowledge and Leadership Alliance’s licensing policy and comply with applicable copyright laws. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that they have the legal rights to grant the necessary licenses for the publication and distribution of their work.
Hybrid Open Access
In the Hybrid Open Access model, authors can choose to make their articles open access by paying an Article Processing Charge (APC). Articles published in this way follow the same licensing guidelines as those under the Gold Open Access model.
Journal Responsibilities
The Knowledge and Leadership Alliance is dedicated to maintaining clear and transparent licensing terms for all published content. We are committed to compliance with copyright laws and best practices in scholarly publishing, and we will communicate our licensing policies clearly to authors, readers, and other stakeholders.
